Google Just Changed the Rules

How to Install Gemma 4 on Your PC
- Go to lmstudio.ai and download the version for your OS.
- Open LM Studio and search for Gemma 4.
- Select the model size for your machine. 8GB RAM = smaller variant. 16GB+ = better options.
- Click download. LM Studio handles the rest.
- Click Load Model and start chatting — or connect via its local API.
For mobile, Google has made Gemma 4 compatible with Android through the AI Edge SDK. Joaquín Barberá demonstrated this in his video walkthrough — not yet as seamless as desktop, but the capability is there and improving rapidly.
What Gemma 4 Cannot Do
- No internet access. It cannot look up today's SAT rules, check exchange rates, or pull any real-time information.
- Smaller than cloud models. GPT-4, Claude 3.5, and Gemini 1.5 Pro are trained at a scale local models cannot match. Complex legal drafting or deep financial analysis still favors cloud.
- Requires decent hardware. At least 8GB RAM and a modern processor. A dedicated GPU helps but isn't required.
- Setup requires patience. Not a link you click and use instantly. Downloading models and configuring LM Studio takes 1-2 hours the first time.
What This Means for AI in Mexico
Cloud AI services are priced in dollars, subject to US-based terms of service, and dependent on foreign infrastructure. A powerful local model changes the calculation — cost drops to zero, privacy risk drops to zero, dependency on foreign servers drops to zero.
